From the sunny Chiclana, at the very south of the old Europe, we would
like to send you our warmest greetings in this European week you are
celebrating. Step by step, we Europeans are walking towards the
creation of a real nation. It's a long process, but the effort is
worth the while. We have created a common place and a common coin; and
very soon we will have a a common Constitution that will make us
advance in this process. Every year we must remember what has been
done and renew our goals not to lose our strength and hope.

However, we know that the most difficult thing in order to achieve our
goal is to get a true identification among all the nations that make
Europe. We must accept and value what makes us different to find out
that we are so similar. Then we will all be able to feel, as the
European motto says, "united within the diversity"

For all this, from the old Spain, we are sending you a bit of Don
Quixote's idealistic madness, and some of Picasso's genius; the white
of our salt mines over the blue of our bay, and the salty and fresh
clarity of the Atlantic breeze. We are sending you the golden
reflection of a cup of fine wine and the sound of a flamenco guitar in
a warm spring night that will teach you to stop the time and to find
within yourselves the secret voice of your heart.

Queridos amigos del Hessenkolleg:

Desde la soleada Chiclana, en el sur de la vieja Europa queremos
enviaros nuestro más caluroso saludo en esta semana Europea que
celebráis. Poco a poco todos los europeos vamos dando pasos hacia la
creación de una verdadera nacion. Es un proceso largo, pero merece la
pena el esfuerzo. Hemos creado un espacio y una moneda común; y muy
pronto tendremos una constitución que nos hará avanzar en este
proceso. Todos los años debemos recordar lo ya conseguido y renovar
las metas para no perder el animo y la esperanza.

Sabemos, sin embargo, que lo más dificil para conseguir nuestra meta
es lograr una identificación de todos los pueblos que forman Europa.
Debemos aceptar y valorar lo que nos hace diferentes para poder
enriquecernos para descubrir que somos muy semejantes y poder
sentirnos, como dice el lema europeo; "unidos en la diversidad"

Por eso, desde la vieja España os enviamos un poco de la locura
idealista de D. Quijote y del genio de Picasso; el blanco de nuestras
salinas sobre el azul de nuestra bahía y la salada y fresca claridad
de la brisa del Atlántico. Os enviamos el dorado reflejo de una copa
de vino fino y el sonido de una guitarra flamenca en una noche cálida
de primavera que os enseñará a parar el tiempo y a encontrar la voz
secreta de vuestro corazón.
